William Cullum is an interior designer based in New York City. His interiors, traditionally influenced and modern in execution, are known for their imaginative use of texture, pattern and unconventional color. William finds inspiration in the history of a place, creating a narrative based on the architecture of a home and his client’s taste to create rooms that are nuanced, layered, and most importantly – personal.

William launched his firm in 2025 after 14 years with Jayne Design Studio where he led projects across the country, including a 1920s house by Charles Dilbeck in Dallas, an early 19th century townhouse in New Orlean’s French Quarter, a 1960s apartment in Palm Beach, and the Branford-Horry House in Charleston, South Carolina.

A South Carolina native, he studied Historic Preservation and Art History at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. He furthered his design education by attending prestigious summer programs including the Victorian Society in America’s London Summer School, the Chicago Summer School, and most recently, The Attingham Summer School.

In 2018, House Beautiful named him to their ‘Next Wave’ group of up-and-coming designers. In 2023, a project he worked on with architect Gil Schafer received a Palladio Award for its exemplary classical design. William’s home was featured in Elle Decor in 2022 and his work has been featured by publications including Architectural Digest, Veranda, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, amongst others.

Recently he worked on the renovation and decoration of an 1870s Italianate house on Long Island with Peter Pennoyer Architects and an apartment in the Carlyle in New York City. A few other special projects in the works include a family camp in Maine, a Brooklyn brownstone for a prominent artist, and an 18th century house in Charleston.
